What To Do When Your Translation Business Slows

So your translation business has been cruising along at a good clip (e.g., 15- 20% or more above last year’s YTD numbers) and then comes a period of a week or 10 days when things slow down noticeably.

What should you do?

1) Locate the contact information for that truck driving school you’ve always considered to be part of your emergency last-resort back up plan (just in case), or

2) Immediately inform your children that until further notice all evening meals are contingent on the success of their after-school wild game hunting and/or fishing activities, or

3) Remain calm. Remind yourself that all businesses go through normal up and down cycles. Take advantage of the temporary extra time to actually work on improving your business (e.g., its marketing, operations, or strategic planning) while you have the chance.

Among the options listed above we recommend number three as the most sensible.
