Marketing Spanish Translation

Spanish translation of marketing materials originally in English is something many companies elect to do if their products and services target Spanish speaking populations in the US or internationally. Here are a few data points:

  • The Spanish language is the second most spoken language in the United States
  • There are 45 million Hispanophones who speak Spanish as a first or second language in the United States
  • The United States of America the second largest Hispanophone country in the world after Mexico
  • Spanish is the majority language in 21 sovereign states and several dependent territories, totaling around 442 million people

The US and worldwide Spanish speaking population is obviously a significant market in terms of sheer numbers.

Whether to translate marketing material into Spanish is a business decision. Translation costs are typically not especially significant, although a full blown marketing plan targeting Spanish speaking audiences represents a commitment. Some companies will “test the water” with limited Spanish language marketing materials and website content prior to engaging fully. Other organizations that have progressed beyond exploratory text phases will run virtual parallel marketing programs in English and Spanish, devoting significant resources in each language.
