Top 10 Reasons Why I Like the Translation Business

I like the translation business. Here are my top 10 reasons why:

1. I get paid for pursuing my main passion. Sending emails.

2. No matter what time of day it is there’s always someone awake and online (somewhere in the world) that I know.

3. Little known but handy ACA exemption for translation agencies.

4. The massive good karma earned from several times a day informing inquirers of the distinction between translation and interpreting.

5. We’re never really closed except when we’re asleep.

6. The strangely reassuring knowledge that I’ll likely one day reach my life’s end (years into the future … hopefully) sitting in the same chair I’m sitting in now.

7. Deftly negotiated fringe benefit of unlimited Dannon coffee yogurt in the office refrigerator.

8. Steady stream of emails from freelance translators with the word “collaboration” in the subject line.
