Translation Services Technical Documents
Technical documents are one of the most frequently requested types of documents for professional translation.
There are so many categories of documents (and other bodies of text) that involve technology. No one technology category dominates, but among the most popular for technical translation include:
- Construction
- Transportation
- Energy/Power
- Communication
- Manufacturing
- Bio-Related
A new client interested in translation of technical materials will sometimes ask if we have translators that have an engineering degree in the related technical area. Since not all engineers are linguists, a better question for a translation company is perhaps “do you have expert linguists with in-depth familiarity in the subject matter domain.”
The latter gives more weight (rightly in our experience) on language rather than technology. Expert linguists with subject matter familiarity can do research over the course of a translation project to fill in technology knowledge gaps where needed. Command of source and target languages is generally the more important requirement.
