Inbound marketing, and closely related content marketing, are disciplines that have come about as alternatives to traditional push oriented marketing methods. Traditional marketing methods have often included print ads, electronic media buys, and other forms of paid advertising. Today savvy online marketers attempt to attract prospective clients by appealing to their interests through content. They appeal to customers’ interests at each stage of the buying process with different types of online content, whether text, imagery, or video.

These buying process stages are characterized in various ways such as the following 3 steps:

2) consideration

3) decision

Sometimes the process is expanded or different (but similar) words are used to describe the buying progress but the thought process is analogous. Different types of content appeal to prospective buyers at each stage of the process.
